Join us for an engaging evening presentation with local, award-winning historical fiction author Janis Robinson Daly, as she discusses the inspiration and research behind her novel Under Two Flags.

Drawing from the 1918 memoir of eighteen-year-old Josephine Thérèse Marzynski—a Boston opera student trapped in Berlin during World War I—Daly explores how music, resilience, and human connection can endure even in times of profound conflict. Through Josephine’s story, Daly examines the power of art to sustain the human spirit while navigating life under “two flags” in enemy territory.

Under Two Flags holds a special local connection: the original memoir was ghostwritten by Daly’s grandfather, Eliot H. Robinson, Sr., a Cotuit resident who once lived across the street from the Cotuit Library. Daly will be joined by her brother, Mark Robinson, a Cotuit resident, for a shared reading from Under Two Flags. Mark who will also briefly speak to their grandfather's work at the Cotuit Pines, one of Cape Cod's earliest summer resorts. Daly’s talk will weave together history, family legacy, and the creative process behind bringing this remarkable story back into the light.
