This fall, join us for a four-week knitting series that blends creativity, community, and giving back. Made with Love by the Friends invites knitters of all levels to come together to learn how to make a cozy, stylish slouchy hat—while also supporting Cotuit Library.

During the first session, expert knitter Kathy Baker will guide participants through the basics of getting started. Kathy learned to knit from her Irish grandmother at the age of five, and while she is best known for her exquisite Irish knit sweaters, she has kindly lent her talents to help the Library. Over the following three weeks, participants will continue to knit together, supporting each other as they complete their projects under Kathy’s guidance.

At the end of the series, each participant will donate their finished hat to the Friends of the Library. These handmade hats will be sold at the Friends’ Winter Market, raising funds to support library programs, collections, and community initiatives. It’s a unique opportunity to donate in multiple ways: the registration fee helps cover materials, your time and skill create something beautiful, and the finished hat becomes a meaningful gift to the Library’s fundraising efforts.

Registration Options:

  • $15 – Experienced knitters (yarn provided; bring your own needles. You will need the following needles for this project: 16” circular needle size 6, 16” circular needle size 7, A set of double pointed needles (5) in either size 5, 6, or 7. You only need those double-pointed ones for about 6 or 8 rows at the end.) Please use code MADEWITHLOVE at checkout to receive this registration price.

  • $40 – Yarn and knitting needles included

Please Note:

  • Patrons must commit to all 4 sessions:

  • Each participant will complete one hat during the series.

  • Beginners are welcome—no prior knitting experience is necessary!

By the end of the program, participants will have learned new skills, shared in the camaraderie of creating together, and discovered the joy of knowing that their handmade work will benefit the Library. And while your first hat will be donated, you’ll leave with the skills to make many more cozy slouchy hats for friends and family—gifts truly made with love.
